To Sleep or not to Sleep

As listeners of the podcast have heard, I will be undergoing a bilateral varicocele procedure a week from tomorrow. I’m having a bit of a debate with my self about how I should go through the surgery. I have the option of either going through it with a local anesthetic (that being an epidural) and a general anesthetic. I can see the pros and cons of going either way. Now I don’t need to make a decision until I get there but this is one of those things are are really on my mind right now about the surgery.
What would you do if you were me?

My husband had this several years ago, and had general anesthetic. It was the best decision for him because that way he wasn’t worrying about the unknown during the whole procedure…although short. He had a fairly easy recovery (he may tell you otherwise). He knew he didn’t want to even be mildly aware of what was going on.
Hard decision. I always had a lot of trouble recovering from general, so I guess I’d go local if I were in your shoes.
My common sense would say go general, but I KNOW I would be too curious and would want to know as much about what’s going on as possible.
Especially down there! So if it came down to it, I’d go local.
I don’t like thinks poking around my spine so I’d go with general. I almost had to have a spinal tap during the birth of my twins and was somewhat relieved when Kaley started to crown (i.e., come out) before they had a chance to poke at my back.
Best of luck to the both of you. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a successful surgery and a soon-to-be pregnancy announcement.
