Show and Tell 07/05/08
Time for show and tell again. This week I want to share with everyone how I came to start knitting again. My grandmother, may she rest in peace, taught me how to knit when I was in my early teens. I made a few scarfs and sweaters and then stopped knitting at age 18. Don’t know why, I just did.
A few weeks ago I won these two books from Carrie of the Words to Mouth podcast. She hosts an excellent podcast interviewing authors of various books.
The knitting book had some beautiful pieces in it and I decided to attempt to make this afghan.
The back of the book also lets you know exactly which yarn was used for each piece. I found this very helpful for ordering the supplies and found everything I needed at Joann.com. This is the first time I’ve used this site to order supplies and I was very satisfied with the efficient delivery. I did choice different colors: “Navy Blue” instead of “Brown” since our sofa is blue and “Spray Rose” instead of “Rose” for a bit more flair. Here are all of the supplies.
I started knitting with a bit of trepidation wondering if I would remember how to do this but it was like riding a bike, once you’ve done it, it comes back to you. I did opt to forgo the intricate lace pattern on the rose colored panels since they are very tricky and you have to watch what you are doing with each row. I did not find that very relaxing and the whole point of knitting is to help you relax. Right? I am enjoying creating the border pattern though. That’s something I haven’t done before. Anyway, this is what I got done so far:
Not bad for a weeks work. I’ll try to show the afghan when it’s completed. I hope the cable panels won’t be too difficult. I’ve done cable before so hopefully it will go smoothly.

That afghan looks wonderful, I think you choose beautiful colors. Good luck Knitting. Kim
Hey, I love Debbie Macomber! I wish I could knit too, perhaps I will learn one of these days, particularly if I could make gorgeous afghans like that.

I wish I could knit, but I don’t know how, and don’t have the patience to learn.

Go you! It is so cool that you can follow a pattern. I really wish I had that skill so I could make something neatly.
