The iPhone will be released on June 29th and I yawn
If you are a reader of any gadget related blogs or mac web sites you know by now that the iPhone will be coming to Cingular AT&T Stores starting on Friday June 29th (in fact, you can see the ads if you are so inclined). While I think that it will be highly successful, for me I am less than excited by the new Apple product. Here is the main reason why I am personally not excited about the iPhone
Support for Exchange – For better or worse, my company uses Microsoft Exchange for our email and as far as I can tell, there isn’t any support for hooking into an exchange server. For me, this is a major issue and I think the main reason why I wouldn’t be moving from my Treo 750. Personally, I think this will be a major issue for many people who would like to actually buy the iPhone since a lot of the people who are using “smartphones” are business users that are tied into exchange servers so for a lot of them, I think that not having a hook into exchange servers is a major non-starter for lots of people.
There is one major caveat with what I have been talking about so far. And that is that not all of the specs and features have been released to the public, so there may be an actual hook into exchange that I don’t know about. If there is indeed a way to connect to an exchange server, then I’ll have to revisit things when the iPhone comes out at the end of the month.
