Now that all the Jewish holidays are over, I thought it would be a good time to share some of my favorite things - to quote Maria from The Sound of Music.
I found this florist in Midwood who sells flowers at about a third of the price of online flowers - no kidding. He has a beautiful selection of all types of flowers that you can mix and match and create your own bouquet. These are the ones I bought recently. Pardon my ignorance, but does anyone know what the red and white flowers are called?

My next favorite thing is an apple/cherry pie that I made that was everyone’s favorite dish this holiday season. if anyone’s interested in the recipe let me know and I’ll post it.

Apple Cherry Pie
1 and 1/2 cups flour
1/2 egg
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
1 and 1/3 sticks margarine (although I’m sure butter would work well too but I wanted mine to be non-dairy)
3 apples - peeled and grated
1/2 can cherry pie filling (28 oz)
Place first 4 ingredients in a mixer bowl. Cut margarine or butter into smaller pieces and mix with an electric mixer the first 5 ingredients. This is the shell for the pie. Separate some of it for the topping. Press the rest of the dough into a 9 inch round pan.
Pour 1/2 can of cherry pie filling into the pie pan, add apples and mix with a spoon or fork.
For the topping you will probably need to add a little more flour to the dough to thicken it a bit. Roll out dough. You can either do a traditional lattice topping or have fun making shapes with cookie cutters like I did. I used a triangle and crown shape cookie cutters and made the middle circle by hand. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour and 15 minutes to an 1 hour and 1/2. It’s done when the top is nicely browned. Enjoy hot or cold. I like it better cold but either way to serve it is fine.
The other 1/2 of the cherry pie filling can either be used in a second pie or can be frozen for another time. It freezes very well.
