Mom freezes her eggs for her daughter

A woman from Hazel Grove, Greater Manchester, England has elected to freeze her own eggs so that her daughter might one day be able to have children. Her daughter has a condition that would make her infertile but she might be able to have children using donor egg. Her mom thinks it’s a great idea so that she can at least have a child genetically related to her and she can spare her daughter the long wait for donor egg. Her mom might have some good intentions but giving birth to your sibling? I just think it’s kind of creepy. What are your thoughts? Check out the full story here.

Infertility in the Movies

Here is a good article from a few weeks ago that talks about how movies are now focusing on infertility and infertility issues. We’ve seen this with Baby Mama and Juno but there seem to be more in the pipeline. It will be interested in seeing how these movies play out. Will they give a real feeling about what couples go through or will it be of the Baby Mama variety where the take away is “be calm and you’ll get pregnant”?

I guess that we’ll have the answers shortly.

Good Things happening in Quebec

Canada and Quebec Provence in particular are making strides for helping couples with infertility. As the article states, it is mainly because of the Infertility Awareness Association of Canada.

Designer Babies

Keeping in spirit with our on going poll, the Eureka Reporter has an editorial about some work going on at Weill Cornell Medical Center on some stem cells for creating “designer babies”

I pretty much agree with their assessments, and I hope that these scientists do the responsible thing.

Secondary Infertility - An Overview

The American Chronicle has a good article up about secondary infertility and as usual gives some advice for the couple that is going through this very difficult period.

One interesting statistic from the article is that 25% of all couples going through infertility treatments are suffering from secondary infertility. I would have guessed the number was a lot lower.
