Soft IVF continues to make headway

We have talked about this before in a previous post, but it seems that the procedure that is now being called Soft IVF is making more headway in the scientific community. I am in agreement and think that this is the wave of the future since women aren’t injecting themselves full of hormones.

Buried a bit further down in the article was a third ART method that is being worked on in Scotland.

Scottish scientists have found a way of taking pieces of ovary containing immature eggs and maturing them in a lab.

Immature eggs survive the freezing process much better but more research needs to be done to confirm it they’re completely normal and suitable for IVF. If successful, it would benefit women who want to wait until they’re older to have children or those who have had cancer treatment.

That looks interesting, but I’m a little surprised that it doesn’t have anything to do with a deep fried Mars bar.

Stop Theif!

There are a lot of crazies out there in the world, but I can’t for the like of my figure out what the heck this person was thinking. I mean breaking into a sperm back and making an illegal withdrawl?! That is a serious WTF?! moment right there.

It’s also interesting to note that according to the UPI, that this looks to have been an inside job.

The Poll is back up!

One of the side effects that we had when we moved to our current theme was that the poll wasn’t showing up on the right hand side as it should have been. Well thanks to our webhost, and my friend, we finally got the problem solved yesterday evening. Feel free to vote early and often. We should be back next week with another episode of the podcast.

Clove Lake Park/Poll

My day started out with me in a lousy mood (probably PMS). Then my sister and I took the kids to Clove Lake Park. It was the perfect day for a trip to the park. We tried to go boating but got there just when they were closing down. Oh well. I heard there was a 2 hour wait anyway. Ridiculous. The lake was very peaceful though and we had a nice time walking around it, picnicking and going to the playground. Here are some pics.

Also, please note that our poll is back up! Feel free to vote - on the right side of the blog.

Have breakfast and have a baby boy?

A study of 740 first-time mothers has shown that women who ate breakfast cereals around the time of conception were more likely to produce sons. The study also concluded that woman who ate higher calorie diets had a tendency to have male offspring. This can possibly be the reason there are less boys born in developing countries in recent years. Interesting…

Some pics from our stay in Montebello

It’s only been a week since we were there but it already feels like a long time ago . Must be all the stress of getting ready for Passover. Pics are always nice to reminisce with though.

How men cope with miscarriage

This is an interesting article about a father’s journey coping with late term pregnancy loss. His wife has anti-phospholipid syndrome, an autoimmune disease that causes blood to clot too much, preventing the baby getting the nutrients it needs from the placenta. This was only discovered after they lost a pregnancy at 35 weeks gestation and a second pregnancy loss of twins at 28 weeks.

We’re back!

We had a nice few days away in Canada. The first 2 days we where in Montebello, QC. The area is similar looking to the Catskills in upstate NY. We stayed at the Fairmont resort there. It was very relaxing (for me at least, Aaron had to work). I got a manicure/hand massage and went swimming for 2 hours. The pool was magnificent. I hope to post some pictures soon. Boy where my shoulders sore the next few days! My only disappointment was that I was looking forward to going sleigh riding - something I’ve never done before, but the activity was closed for the season already. There was still snow here and there but it was starting to melt.

Friday, we drove to Montreal in a rain/hail storm. I’m sure Aaron found the driving tons of fun! We spent the weekend with friends which was nice. The weather was dreadful - rain/snow. On Sunday we were worried that our flight would be delayed due to the weather but thank G-d the flight home ran on time.

Rivky stayed with a friend of mine for part of the time and at my sister for the weekend.

We are glad to be back home and are very busy Passover cleaning. We got alot done today so I’m feeling positive so far. Tomorrow the big shopping trip for Passover food. Can’t wait to see what the total bill will be - it will be high I can guarantee that! Rivky’s also scheduled to get a haircut finally. It’s been growing quite long so it will be nice to get that done.

Episode 40 - Moral Dilemmas

In our 40th episode, Malky and I buy a Porsche and try to act like we are on episode 20 again. But seriously folks, what we’ll talk about during this episode are some of the moral dilemmas that are cropping up since technology is advancing at a rapid rate.

If your looking to do IVF in Europe, the UK apparently is your least safe option. They have the highest levels of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) reported - up to four times higher than in other countries. Check out the full details here.
