“The Waiting Womb” book review

I very much enjoyed reading “The Waiting Womb”. We will be interviewing the author Jill Sayre in our next episode G-d willing. Here’s my offical review:

Excellent book for anyone experiencing infertility or if you’d just like to understand what it’s like for someone experiencing it. Very down to earth. Realistic without being overly depressing. I also enjoyed learning more about what the adoption process is like.

episode 14 - you are my sunshine

Malky and I bring you the latest news from the infertility world. We also talk about how being exposed to sunshine may help conception and why smoking isn’t good for trying to conceive.

technical difficulites - please stand by

As you can see, the site is back up but we are experiencing a hicup with uploading episode 14. It’s done and it’s ready to upload. I hope to have it up either tonight or tomorrow.

Some downtime

We will be entering a maintenance period starting Friday Februrary 16, 2007 at 5:00 pm EST, and it may continue into Saturday. So hang in there and sorry for the inconvience.

Fresh from the Mail

We just received in the mail a book called “The Waiting Womb” by Jill Sayre. It’s a fictional dark comedy about a woman and her friend going through infertility. Malky has started reading the book and likes it so far. Also we’ll be having the author Jill Sayre on an upcoming episode of the show most likely Episode 15. Malky may also give a book review of “The Waiting Womb” as well. Stay tuned.

Something struck me today

I was looking at the stats for the site this evening since I like to see where people who are visiting the site are coming from and how they are coming to the site. I noticed that SaraS-P’s blog had been sending traffic our way (and thanks for that Sara & btw my sister spells her name the exact same way) and decided to go over and look at the site. Usually, I leave the perusal of infertility blogs to Malky since they reveal a little too much information for my taste (yes, I know I’m a prude) but I was interested in seeing if it was a post or blog roll that was driving the traffic. Anyhoo, I was looking around the site and noticed that Sara and a button on the site that got my attention. The button said “Of all the rights of women, the greatest is being a mother”.

That got me started thinking about something that I had been pondering for awhile.  Why is it that something like abortion can be coveredby insurance while it is so difficult to have insurances cover infertility costs unless you have really good insurance. I mean if it’s all about a woman’s right to choose, why is one choice better than the other?

A few more of my favorite apps

while listing my favorite non apple apps last week, I forgot a few that I should really mention since I use them on a day in day, out basis.

  • Colloquy - is an excellent IRC client. It is mac like in it’s interface and is even apple scriptable. Not only that but it’s even free and opensource. A true win-win for everyone.
  • Ecto - As a rule, I don’t like to use a web-based client for writing my blog posts because there are times where I want to write something and my computer isn’t connected to the internet. Ecto is my blogging client of choice since it is easy to set up and use.
  • BonEcho - I’m a big fan of FireFox and while I like safari too, FF just gives me more power due to it’s extensions (maybe I’ll write a post about what extensions I use at a later date). The down side of Firefox is that it sticks out like a sore thumb on a Mac due to its Windows like UI. Another little annoyance is that it’s not optimized for the Intel processor. Enter BonEcho, an offshoot of the FireFox code optimized for Inter processors and with an Aqua look for the widgets on a webpage. Really cool stuff.
  • Cyberduck - A great ftp client that will do sftp as well.
  • Skype - We mainly use skype for our phone interviews that we have on the podcast. While no longer free for skype to phone conversations, it’s still cheaper than a regular long distance phone call and all of the other expensive equipment for recording phone conversations.

close, but no cigar

Well, if I were doing government work my prediction would have been spot on. Oh well.

super bowl 41 prediction

There are lots of little sub-plots to this superbow and if you follow sports, I don’t need to tell them to you. Regardless of these sub-plots, I think that the Colts will be too much for the Bears and will win the game. Call it 34 - 21 in favor of the Colts.

technical difficulites

We are in hte midst of switching our DSL service from Verizon to Earthlink and as a result, verizon has killed our service before we have the new dsl connection up so for the time being we are sharing the wifi connection that our neighbor has (with his permission of course). So please be understanding if we don’t reply to your email right away.

Oh, if anyone can give me some help in sharing the connection from my macbook to malky’s macmini send me an email or leave me a comment.
