Foreign Oil

A lot of people talk about our dependence on foreign oil and how the war to liberate Iraq may have been a war for oil. But today while reading a thread on Professor Althouse’s blog, I learned who the country is that we are importing the most crude oil actually is. Care to guess? C’mon I dare you!

Well believe it or not, we are importing more crude oil from Canada than from any other country in the world. If we really are invading countries for oil maybe this movie has the right idea…

At the airport

I’m sitting in Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport awaiting my flight home. I was able to move my flight up a day since the conference ended a day before we thought it was going to end. The only seat I was able to get on this flight was a middle seat and thought it would be worth it if I could get a flight home a day early. However, when I got to the airport I decided to ask at the counter if there were any aisle or window seats. Thankfully they had one in spite of it being a really full flight. Yet another reason why JetBlue is such a good airline.

Almost Home

Shabbos has ended here on the west coast and I got to speak with Malky and Rivky. As much as I loved being here in LA with my sister and brother in law and neices (maybe more on this shabbos in another post), it will come as no surprise that I missed both my wife and daughter a lot. Rivky in fact sounded very sad on the phone and it was really killing me inside while I was talking with her. The good news is that I and 3/4 of the way done with my trip and I’ll see them all on Thursday morning.

Eastward Bound (some of us)

I dropped Malky and Rivky off at Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport this morning and then headed to Marina del Rey to continue exhibiting at the conference that we are exhibiting at this week.

This vacation had to have been the best one that we have been on in a while. We spent lots of time with my sister, brother in law and their kids, which was great since Rivky and they get along very well. They get along so well that they wanted to have sleep overs all the time. We also visited the Pier at Santa Monica and went to a fun children’s museum called Kidspace. Yesterday, Malky and Rivky went to Universal Studios and did a touristy thing. It turns out that Rivky is still a bit too young to really enjoy the shows and it was her least favorite thing that she did. Hopefully Malky will get some time to put a post up going into more detail.

Westward Bound

Malky, Rivky and I are headed off to the City of Angels (a/k/a Los Angeles) for the second half of the holiday of Succos. We’ll be visiting my sister, brother in law and 4 nieces (two of which sandwich rivky age wise) not to mention that my mother is there as well for the holiday.

After the holiday, I have two conferences that we are exhibiting at in the area and I’ll be staying on for an extra week. Like we mentioned in the podcast that was posted last night, we are not dropping off the face of the earth, but I’ll be busy.

Episode 6 - Gender Selection

its_a_boy_girl_button

Malky and I sit down and talk with Robin Elise Weiss author of “The Sex Selection Revolution ”. We discuss old wive tales that people try to select the gender of their children as well as high tech methods. We also discuss the ethical side of this issue and religious views on this topic. Ecto updated

To tide over those that are waiting (eagerly I might add) for the 3.0 release of the fine blogging app Ecto, the author of the software has released a 2.4.1 upgrade with support for Intel processors. I have downloaded the software and it is quicker than it was while it was running under the rosetta emulation. Kudos to Adriaan Tijsseling!

A bit of house keeping

As you may have noticed, We made a slight change to the way the podcast site looks, namely we have folded it into the main site and with the help of a cool plug-in for WordPress you can now listen to the podcast from the site just like how you could do it before. I personally think that this is a step in the right direction. If you are interested in why we decided to switch, click on the more link
