White & Nerdy

My buddy BobC sent me this link yesterday to Weird Al’s new song/video White & Nerdy. All I can say is that the man still has it! This is one funny video.

National Talk like a Pirate day

My pirate name is:
Bloody Harry Rackham

Every pirate lives for something different. For some, it’s the open sea. For others (the masochists), it’s the food. For you, it’s definitely the fighting. You have the good fortune of having a good name, since Rackham (pronounced RACKem, not rack-ham) is one of the coolest sounding surnames for a pirate. Arr!

PTA/Orientation

We had a parents - mothers actually, PTA/Orientation at Rivky’s school last night. It was nice to hear the principles speak and afterwards  we went up to Rivky’s classroom  and  heard  from the teachers what they will be covering this year and what we as parents can do to help our children succeed. It was nice to meet some of the mothers of Rivky’s friends. It’s also interesting to note that a lot of her friends have mothers that I like. Must be something in the genes.

9/11 Anniversary Thoughts

As I think we all know by now, yesterday was the 5th anniversary of the attacks that happened on September 11th 2001. I would have liked to written a post about it yesterday but I was at a conference in Chicago and got back in last night. I had left for Chicago on Sunday afternoon and had taken all of the equipment needed for our exhibiting at the conference, including a change of clothing for myself and of course deoderant, toothpaste, toothbrush, after-shave etc. And since it was just an overnight flight, I was going to carry on for the trip back.

In the afternoon, I got to O’Hare and checked on via the self service kiosk and proceeded to the security line. When I sent my bag through the x-ray machine, it got pulled over for additional checking and they took away my after-shave lotion, toothpaste and deodorant. I kind of expected it but it was annoying never the less.

What was most amazing about the trip home, was that our flight path had us passing by the twin beams of light that were pointed straight up in the air to commemorate the fallen twin towers. While we were on a decent, everyone was straining their necks or moving to the left side of the plane to see this site. When we came to the tribute, everyone was silent. It was as if we were all transfixed and were keeping our own personal moments of slience. Seeing this from the air was something quite inspiring and in spite of the terrible loss that we had five years ago made me proud to be an american.

Primary Day

Today here in New York State it’s primary day. That basically means that the Democratic person that gets elected in the primary will win the general election in November. I went in to my local polling place and did my civic duty. It was very empty and there was no wait at all and I was the 19th person to vote at the polling place. As a protest, I decided to vote for the people that are running against the front runners like Hillary Clinton or Elliot Spitzer who are running for Senator and Governor respectively. I was also a little disappointed since there was one person that I wanted to vote for as a state senator, but he doesn’t seem to be representing where I live which is a little strange since there were posters all over where I live.

In any event, I would like to urge those that do have primaries today to vote. It doesn’t matter who you are voting for but you should exercise that right.

back to school we go

So the time of year has come again. Rivky starts school tomorrow! She will be in First Grade and will need to wear a school uniform. She is very excited and a little nervous. I gave her a hair trim, she’s all squeaky clean, her uniform is laid out for tomorrow and here we go. We purchased computer cameras so that Aaron can converse with Rivky and me while he’s away and that seems to be helping alot with the separation anxiety that Rivky experiences every time Aaron has to travel on business. She especially enjoys adding accessories and changing her image to cute characters.

YAPCP

Are you tired about all of these posts that have been going up about the podcast The second time around? I can’t say that I blame you if you were. Here is what is going on right now with the podcast. I did a lousy job of editing and producing it and put it up, as luck would have it I created a infinate loop with the feedburner feed and anyone who subscribes, didn’t get the podcast. Now I have to do two things, a)re-edit the podcast and b)try to break this loop I have created. I have taken a copy of the mp3 file and I hope that I can edit it using Audacity while I am in London for a business trip. Not to mention that the hum is still there even though we have moved locations. I’m beginning to think that it is the MacBook.
